Let’s face it, the world has been lacking a sultry jazz/soul vocalist reminiscent of Sade….. And, then there was Niia. She sings with a smooth, sultry coolness while she plays emotional melodies on piano.
Twenty-eight year old Niia Bertino, known as Niia, released her first album yesterday simply titled I. Although, the singer/songwriter and pianist, isn’t new to the music world. As granddaughter of an Italian opera singer and daughter of a classical pianist, Niia was destined to perform.
After high school she moved from Massachusetts to New York, where she attended the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music for a short time. She soon met Wyclef Jean and was featured on the song “Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill)” in 2007 along side Lil’ Wayne and Akon, which was certified platinum. She then did some global touring and appeared on a few late-night shows.
In February 2013, she released her single and video, “Made For You” by director Tony Kaye. In 2014, she gave us her debut EP, Generation Blue. We haven’t seen much of anything from her since then, but it may have been worth the wait. Look for her debut album I, released May 5th and check out www.niiamusic.com
