Last week hip-hop icon, Jay-Z, released his mysterious and highly-rumored new album, 4:44, exclusively on his digital outlet Tidal.
For weeks there were still-shot advertisements, video clips and even billboards that teased a new project from the mogul, but never quite told us specifically if it was going to be an album or not. Some speculated that it was going to be a film, since Jay has been working on a series of film and tv projects about Trayvon Martin and even a documentary. Regardless of what the debate was, we all hoped it would be new music…. and it was!
The album, produced by NO I.D., let us in to the personal life of Mr. Carter and showed us a more intimate look at the man himself. There has been much controversy over the album just in the first 7 days, including Jay-Z confessing his infidelities to his popstar wife, Beyonce, his issues with Kanye, racism and much more. 4:44 was released initially released exclusively on Tidal last Friday, but had already been certified platinum by the RIAA before it was released on other digitial outlets this morning. That means Jay-Z now has more platinum albums than any other hip-hop artist in history!
If you don’t already have it, you’re late! Stop what you’re doing right now and listen to 4:44 here!
