So, I wasn’t really checkin’ for the sophomore album, The Space Between, from Majid Jordan when it was released on Friday. But, I decided to play it over the weekend and I am so glad I did! The album is deep! The sound, the feelings that it provokes…. Damn!
Canadian R&B duo, Majid Jordan, only met by chance 6 years ago at a birthday party. They immediately clicked and began working together between the parents’ basement and dorm rooms they had available during their years as students of the University of Toronto. Shortly after, they relesaed their first EP, Afterhours, which later drew the attention of OVO producer Noah “40” Shebib, who quickly signed them to OVO Sound.
Majid Jordan’s first big success was from their participation in the production of Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home,” which also featured the duo. In 2014, they released their official debut EP, A Place Like This. February 5, 2016, their first album was released and was self-titled. They have been nominated for numerous awards for their work and have won several awards for best video and best production.
On Friday, their sophomore album, The Space Between, dropped and could have easily been overlooked. Do not make that mistake! The album’s smooth electro/alternative R&B groove, produced mostly by the duo themselves, is not to be underestimated and has features from OVO labelmates PARTYNEXTDOOR and dvsn. I can see big thing’s coming from this! Majid Jordan released 4 singles prior to the album release, including a track with PARTYNEXTDOOR, called “One I Want.” The most recent single, “Body Talk,” was dropped less than 2 weeks ago and has an infectious beat, although I have to say that my favorite song has to be “Gave Your Love Away.” This album should come with a disclaimer that says “Do not mix with alcohol – You will be in your feelings!”
