R&B super-group 112 is just dropped their comeback album! Their 6th group project, Q Mike Slim Daron, is their first since 2005.
The quartet has been together since 1993 and signed to Bad Boy Records soon after securing an audition for “Diddy” outside of Atlanta’s Club 112, which led to an audition in front of Bad Boy’s recording artist, Faith Evans, as well as Diddy’s then protege, Usher.
Their debut album had quite a few monster ballads, such as “Only You,” “Come See Me” and “Cupid.” Then followed by a feature on Diddy’s “I’ll Be Missing You” with Faith Evans, dedicated to his close friend and her husband, The Notorious B.I.G. after his murder in 1997.
Their follow-up albums gained even more attention, earning them countless awards and plaques. The group then amicably parted with Bad Boy to join Def Jam’s Def Soul label, where they’ve had much success. They then went their separate ways for a number of years, to each work on solo projects. Since recently banding back together, still on Def Soul, they released a single called, “Strawberry,” which even as a super-fan, I personally thought was awful. But, their latest album, which dropped 10 days ago and does not include “Strawberry,” brings back that old-school R&B vibe without feeling dated. Almost every song on it could be a single! I love it!
Their initial single, “Dangerous Games,” is pretty good, but I can bet the big single on this will be the collaboration with another massively successful R&B quartet, Jagged Edge, who also recently released a come back album. The single is called “Both Of Us.” I can’t wait for them to go on tour!
